Umm how about everything, any hit in the nhl now is dealt with by a suspension or fine or some other disciplinary action, part of it directly related to all the whiney parents in the little league that cry everytime something drastic isn't done when someone gets hurt. Once your a ref you can stand up and talk your shit, untill then shut it

Suspend him yes but for up to 48 games when others have done much worse while getting less time. If that player hadn't convulsed on the ice his suspension would be no where near what it is. Its all PR

Hockey is and always has been a violent game, if you don't like it, don't play it and change the damn channel so you dont have to watch it!

It's not him appealing the decision, it's the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies doing the appeal, calling it excessive.

The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies said Tuesday they will appeal their player’s suspension for the hit on Quebec Remparts defenceman Mikael Tam during a Jan. 17 game.

Coach and general manager Andre Tourigny called the suspension, which includes the regular season and the playoffs, excessive.

As for Cormier, he is quoted as saying:

This is exactly the kind of punishment that should be meted out for vicious hits like that. Hell, there's nothing sweeter in sports than watching a nice hard, clean body or hip check, but hits like the one in the article and the one earlier this year deserve long suspensions. To be sure hockey is a rough sport as it is, but crap like that doesn't belong in the sport.

i was referring to the hits, if you dont like seeing them turn it off, so not sure where your going with that one but I assume into nonsenseland , or as you would call "home"

And until you're the President of the CHL or one of the members of the board that makes these decisions, shut it.
But I guess you'd still feel the EXACT same way if that was YOUR son on the ice convulsing away from serious head trauma right? You'd just do nothing and explain to your wife and son that it's just the nature of the game right?

Let's say we were playing a game of pick-up hockey on a pond and I elbowed you in the head like that, what would your reaction be after?

As a ref, you should know that suplementary discipline has nothing to do with refereeing. The call on the ice, whether you call it an elbow or a head check or a straight match penalty is what it is, but only applies, from the ref's perspective to that game. What comes after is up to the league. This is clearly the sort of play that represents the very worst aspect of the game....that is a lack of respect for the opponent. Nobody wants to take hard clean hits out of the game, but as a ref, you should know that there are very few circumstances when an injury comes from a clean hit.

I have NO PROBLEM with hard hits in the NHL or in any OTHER league for that matter but this was FAR from a legal "hard hit".

ok for 1. I never said YOU had a problem with them did I? nor 2. Did I say the hit was legal. So dont put words in my mouth and for that matter if you dont like it hit that little ignore button and save us both some time.

Its called a fucking opinion and if you don't like it you can shove it up your ass. There are very clear rules on attacks on this board perhaps you need to be reminded?
