So much for all those supposedly dangerous anti-carrier missiles China is building...they can't hit nuke boats and China's ASW capability is laughable.

China is at least two or three generations behind the US in military tech. So long as Obama doesn't keep gutting our military and replacing actual warriors with socially engineered representatives of the multicultural and diversity paradigms we'll be fine.

In short, our worst enemy is the American voter and not China.

I think the voter is the worst enemy of the military in all western countries.

Still, this is good news on the carrier front;

American Aircraft Carriers Will Peak in 2024 - U.S. flattops could increase from 19 to 23 in the next decade—hugely outnumbering foreign fleets

The thing about the count of those hulls is that it doesn't tell you how many of those carriers are alongside and rusting.

This shot is at Bremerton and the carrier on the right is what all five of them should look like. The four on the left are not going anywhere without massive refits.

The ship on the far left and second from right are both 50's vintage Forrestal class ships. The two other carriers in between them are Kitty Hawk class, one is definitely the former USS Constellation.

They've all been out of service for years.

A country's military is as strong as her human capital will allow.

I shudder to think where that puts us in 10 years.

The number in the article includes amphibs as well as big deck carriers (rightly or wrongly);

$1:
The American carrier force includes big and small ships—although, in fact, the “small” vessels are still among the largest warships in the world. Today 10 nuclear-powered Nimitz-class supercarriers—each a thousand feet long and displacing 100,000 tons of water—comprise the big part. A Nimitz can carry 60 or more aircraft including four dozen F/A-18 fighters.

Nine non-nuclear amphibious assault ships complement the supercarriers. The eight 830-foot-long, 40,000-ton Wasp-class assault ship—plus a single, older Tarawa-class vessel—lack the Nimitz’s catapults and arresting wires, so their only fixed-wing planes are short-takeoff, vertical-landing Harrier jump jets.

A normal Harrier complement is six planes, but in a pinch an assault ship can crowd 20 of the attack jets on its deck and in its hangar.

By 2024, two new Ford-class supercarriers will have joined the 10 Nimitzs. The single Tarawa will have decommissioned, replaced by three new America-class assault ships carrying F-35B stealth jump jets.

I don't count the amphibs simply because they don't have the legs or the speed of the nuke ships and the fact that the aircraft they carry have very limited ranges. Maybe that might change if the F-35 variants deliver as promised but for now the F-35 is a pipe dream.

Nope. They have stolen enough Military tech to utilize it in the next 5 perhaps 10 years.

The thing is that the Chinese do not have the layers of tech that we do. Even if they have the plans for some of our stuff they simply don't have the infrastructure to produce it.

Do you think all those Chines missile sites across from Taiwan are to be used against Taiwan?
Nope, many are anti ship Missiles. The 7th fleet or any other US fleet will no longer sail that straight as a show of strength.

Now we get to cyber warfare.
Tripping the west coast power grid, so power plants blow like candles one after another, would take years to repair. Figure out what the circumstances on the ground would be.

Oh yes, consider the Chinese dumping US treasuries on the market. How would the US economy fare?

Then we have denial of territory. What would the Chinese consider, and what would the US public tolerate.

And lastly, the present Politburo is run by on man. 7 members,1 leads, the other 6 follow.

Look to their industry again, then review your opinion is my advice.

On one hand, you're right to discount them as full fledged carriers, but on the other hand you need to take into account that most other carriers in the world closely resemble them - small decks, light tonnage and VSTOL aircraft.

Only a couple other carriers around the world handle fixed wing aircraft like the big USN nuke carriers do.
