It's now apparent what Hockey Canada wanted and that's proportional representation based on Major Junior hockey playing population which may be a nice philosophy if you're running a daycare but doesn't work worth shite for picking a winning hockey team.
I suppose it all depends on what the outcome is supposed to be. If it's about 'winning' then they suck. If it's about character building, then I say it's a win.
And, our second best players did come in fourth overall in the world.

Sorry Doc that's not good enough.
Canada has put it's reputation into hockey, no country is as identified with the sport as we are.
Let me break it down for you.
Canada has 30 million people. Just by numbers, we should be better than:
Slovakia 5 million
Czech 10 million
Finland 5 million
Sweden 9 million
Switzerland 8 million
Additionally, those countries are not "hockey countries", because soccer occupies at least 50% of their sports world.
So at least half their kids do something else besides hockey on a serious level.
Again, usually soccer.
Bigger countries:
France 60 million
Italy 60 million
Spain 40 million
Germany 80 million
No issues here, soccer is so dominant, hockey is a fringe sport here at best.
That leaves the US and Russia, big countries at 300 million each.
The rest of the world isn't worth discussing.
They will be competitive at anything they do just from weight of numbers.
However, hockey is not the dominant sport.
Russia it's second or third, in the US it's probably 5th or even 6th.
So again, drawing on the numbers of kids who enter hockey, the talent pool
gets diluted quite a bit.
Our result was dismal, last year and this.
I was very unhappy to hear about this selection procedure, it's nonsense
as usual PC bullshit.
And now we have the results to prove it.
