But wait a minute, back in the day people were complaining about the price of gas and suggesting Obama could do something about it by opening up Keystone, weren't they telling us "No. Opening Keystone would not affect prices at the pumps"?

Sure they were.

"Lower fuel prices are bad if they don't include all of the social costs,"

I worry about the human race when this is statement of an educated man.

$1:
Such emissions have been on the mind of President Barack Obama, who has said his administration would allow the pipeline to be built "only if this project does not significantly exacerbate the problem of carbon pollution.
Says the man who jacked up fracking, cranked up oil production in general and is looking at exploiting their own oil sands.

It's adorable the way O'Bummer tries to camouflage US protectionism by waving the environment flag.

Actually, he didn't do any of that, you know (with the possible exception of the oil sands one. I don't know that one).

It's true he tries to take credit when it's convenient for him, but no, that was private business on private land producing that oil, although some was Bush leases on public land that took a few years to produce.

Obama wants to take credit for the economic boom in those areas without admitting to actually being responsible for any emissions.

Luckily for him the lapdog media assists in the deception.

The new figures were developed by some outfit called the Stockholm Environmnt Institute (a non-governmetnal organization). Also, being essetnially an economic forecast of the oil market, I would say it's likely highly speculative.

Some of these arguments are no doubt true....... but meaningless and misdirected. There is a quantity of fossil fuel that will be burned no matter where it's from or how it is shipped. A pipeline although not perfect is the safest way to ship large quantities over large distances. There are still environment hazards to a pipeline but lower than rail or truck.
If some one is delusional in the belief that this will somehow lower gas prices so more will be burned, they need to get their head out of their ass and into the real world. Gas doesn't go down in price and only increases the amount of profit to government and industry. The only way to reduce CO2 from burned fossil fuels is to become more efficient or burn less.
