The final notes of the Accessed information tells the story:
The notes suggest that, in the end, the Mounties will chart their own course regardless of what the spies do.
The RCMP has a robust range of disruption tools and continues to develop its own ability to diminish threats in light of rapidly evolving changes, the notes say.
Should there be any questions: The RCMP is entitled to investigative independence and no official may direct how RCMP investigations are conducted.
This is about what you would expect from an arrogant bunch that leak money as if it grew in the backyard but always complain about resources. No way in hell any official is going to tell us what barns we can burn, what women we can insult or how many officers we employ to catch a couple of nutters from B.C, we do as we please. Bodes well for democracy.
As the rest of the world becomes smaller and free market principles and free trade take hold, my guess is the fossils in Canada (at various levels of policing) will become a larger and more obvious liability to Canadas prosperity. We have seen it with the TPS and carding, the OPP and interference in provincial elections and CSIS with the lack of any accountability though they possess vast and intrusive powers.
Just another day in the life of the security apparatus...
