Very cool! Good that the cops didn't get all uptight at him.

from comments:

Americans always get a little nervous when a Canadian approaches the white house area.

They were probably wondering why a Canadian was in D.C. without the Stanley Cup.

Frozen body of water and a Canadian nearby. What else should anyone expect! It's like a cat finding some spilled milk, you know what's going to happen next. [B-o]

I'm sure they kept a very close eye on him, possibly he even skated with 4 or 5 laser dots on him the whole time. But it's nice to see they saw there was no real threat and let him have some fun. Maybe that's the difference in well paid law enforcement and the usual mall cops they employ down south.

It's a public park and, in particular, the National Mall is oft called 'The Nation's Front Yard' in reference to its status as one of our earliest public parks.

That said, skating on the Reflecting Pool while it is frozen over to a safe thickness of ice is absolutely conducive with the purpose for which the park was designed. I do believe that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Pierre L'Enfant would have been very, very pleased! [B-o]
