The lawsuit doesn't even make sense. Boeing doesn't compete against Bombardier in that market, and Boeing gets all sorts of US government subsidies and tax breaks.

Why should Canada patronize such a company?

$1:
Boeing has accused Bombardier of selling its CSeries passenger jets to a U.S. airline at an unfairly low price with help from government subsidies, and says the case affects its long-term economic health.

If true then that's a valid complaint.

$1:
On a mid-November Monday, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) signed into law the largest corporate tax break in any state’s history, with an estimated lifetime value of $8.7 billion. The package was the result of a special three-day session Inslee called in order to entice Boeing to build its 777X plane in the state. Boeing didn’t just score big that day. The aerospace giant has received more state and local subsidy dollars than any other corporation in America, according to newly released data compiled by Good Jobs First, a policy resource center on subsidy data.

...link from 2013

Literally the first google search result on Boeing subsidies.

Boeing can shove their hornet eh!

Fair enough. Canada is under no obligation to buy anything from anyone.

Maybe Canada should drop out of the F-35 project, as well.

The new CSeiries will compete wit 737 and probably the "Boeing Business Jet" which is also basically a 737

Boeing had no orders and was not pursuing any in the market that Bombardier was. Hence, "they don't compete against Boeing". ie: the reason why Boeing would say they were 'dumping' the jet in that market.

So why, despite all the US government subsidies that they receive, does Boeing care? I'm not a big fan of Bombardier, but it's like the pot referring to the kettle as black.

I wonder if there isn't something else? Boeing doesn't want to drag this suit on so long that Canada ends up cancelling the Hornet order because the F-35 is ready. What reason does Boeing have to ignore billions in orders? [huh]

I think the PM linking that f-18 purchase with the lawsuit is new...

It started right after the lawsuit. No one in the government admitted it, but at trade shows and things, no one from the government would attend Boeing displays or talk with Boeing employees. Harjat Singh railed against the lawsuit, but until that meeting with the UK PM, then Trudeau said out loud what policy had been for a while.

Boeing knew they were risking the Hornet contract by bringing this suit. That's why I'm wondering, why lose billions in revenue, some goodwill, and bad international press for a jet market they weren't trying to get?

We are missing a puzzle piece here.

So, you are pleading "Dirigisme"? ;)

Donald doesn't like when we prop up business, so he's doing his friends and co-stock owners a favour by not only propping up that business, but stifling the competition that its not competing against? /s

Still doesn't explain why he'd interfere in a company in order to lose them a billion dollar contract.

No, I think this may be part of Trump's NAFTA renegotiation strategy.

It makes sense if you look at it that way.

It might make sense from a Donald perspective. From ours, if the President can decide whether a company lives up to it's contractual obligations, then spare parts and fighter jets are at the whim of the State.

From our perspective, we don't like being held hostage, and the Eurofighter Typhoon or similar jet starts to look a lot better, despite all the money we've thrown down the F-35 hole.
