Meh arbitrary rankings by French journalists dont hold much water for me.

$1:
The United States rose to No. 20 this year from No. 40 in last year's ranking, which the group attributes to more relaxed attitudes toward the media under U.S. President Barack Obama.

Ah so because they like Obama they raise their ranking 20 points?

Ya I really think this whole ranking list is bullshit, I wonder where the French ranked themselves eh?

Careful Monsieur, my wife is French, and not Quebecois, either. Having said that, who cares what a bunch of French journalists have to say?

pretty much, eh? I mean he hasnt really been in there long enough to make those kind of changes, or to even have that kind of peripheral affect.

No, because Uncle Stevie has a gag-order on all the self-destructive Alliance-Reform hold-overs in his government. Smart move on Stevie's part. He knows if he forces them to keep their yaps shut, there's no chance of a foot ending up in there. Less talk = less press freedom, no?

No. They're absolutely free to report anything and they do. This accusation about 'uncle stevie' keeping his house quiet is a little tame if you consider this has been the objective of pretty much every high ranking politician in our history.

Do you really believe the French have a beed on this detail and that's why we slipped in the ranks? C'mon.

No. I never said anything about what the French know.

Waddell says the second thing that comes to mind is the Canadian Human Rights Commission, which has come under fire recently over a couple of high-profile cases.

Nothing chills free speech faster than the activities of a human rights commission.

Yep. Mark Steyn and Ezra Levant are probably the main reasons why Canada got dinged. Pretty good reasons, too.

See, free speech is not measured by how free people are to say things you like, but how free they are to say things you abhor.
