Actually, it's older as it comes from the Sanskrit word manas which means to think or a thinking being, and is gender neutral as it refers to all humans. With one glib 'mansplaining' sentence, he invalidates this young woman's serious and intelligent question.

Yet he wasn’t getting triggered so he’s not the snowflake. All he did was make a passing comment while in conversation then moved on.

Sanskrit is a different brach of Indo-European language family from English and the other European languages, but the root term for ‘man’ is much older than Sanskrit and apparently existed in the original Proto-Indo-European root language anyway.
