No shortage of doctors just a shortage of Family Practitioners. There's plenty of physicians around, it's just that most don't want to have the responsibility of looking after the same people. Its easier to float around writing prescriptions at offices supplied for free.

Just read an article where surgeons are having trouble finding positons, so it's certainly not all doctors.

"The doctor shortage will only get worse, the report says, because of what the authors call "restricted physician training." So just open up the med schools already. But of course the response will be to hire immigrant doctors away from the countries that paid to train them, then have most of them drive cabs here. And of the rest, many won't speak adequate English, or have a problem treating women or lesbians or what have you.

This has been going on for over a decade. In a decade the government didn't get the job done.
