I want to see if this grass roots movement to stop the hst will achieve its objective. There was a large gathering again in Burnably 2 nites ago, the zalm was there and there is momentum and there is populist support from union and from ndp and from some really pissed off citizens. It is interesting because Bill is stirring up a grass roots movement and nostalgia from having a real BC characer stepping back into some lime light and maybe, just maybe capitalizing on that and stopping this thing. I do not know the macro or minutae, but its another tax we just dont need for this day and place that is being sleazilly slipped in. I am massively simplicizing, but that seems prudent. The bill needs to be fleshed out completely from a grass roots perspective.

You forget, the Liberals have a majority, so who is going to oppose the bill?

So what if they send it for a vote, with a majority vote, the will of the people means nothing.

Remember, we are only sheep.

They Liberals may not always do the right thing, as always its the lesser of two evils, but I could not imagine this province under the control of those clowns in the NDP again. CARole James couldn't lead her way out of a paperbag, let alone run the province. People, remember the $450,000,000 ferry fiasco.

What about the Convention center fiasco - from 500 mil to 1 bil? How about the Whistler Highway and Canada line when that money could have been spent on much more useful infrastructure? How about the CN rail scandal that's tied up in the courts, and keeping BC rail operating with no track to use - ie paying a bunch of execs to sit around and do nothing? The list goes on - neither party has a great claim to fame. I'm hoping Gregor Robertson is ready to run for premier by the time of the next election.

I bet he can win again. The BC Liberals will let all this HST stuff simmer down over the next 3 years and many people will forget. Then maybe 3-12 months before the next election they will lower the HST rate to 10% or 11%, i guarantee it.

He's counting on the economy improving by the time for the next election. Then he can bribe us with a bit our own money again, and all will be well, while his developer buddies get the big bucks.

I fear you may be right, I just wish there was a better choice.

Gordon Campbell is just a snake, I don't trust him.

The HST was timed so that people would get over by the next election. There's no way the NDP--or any other political party, for that matter--will repeal the HST once in force. As well as kissing billions in tax good-bye, they'd have to renege on the deal with the feds and then re-create the entire provincial bureaucracy administering the PST. Unlikely.

The HST is inevitable and virtually irrevocable.

Any leader who announces his end immediately becomes a lame duck engenders a messy power struggle. It's just good politics to say you're going to run again. Unless his massive ego has completely distorted his sense of reality, Campbell knows he's not running again.
