Funny how all the news reports left out the bit where he posted "How about that you squaddie c***s!" It may not be illegal to burn Poppies, but to post it in a public forum with that statement is surely malicious and could even be inciting violence.

If we had the same laws in Canada, most of us here would be in jail.

If someone was to burn something important to certain cultures, it would be instantly labelled as a hate crime.

News items mention that veterans might be happy about the charges... but would they be?
I would say that many of them might think that incidents like this are perpetrated by cranks, who will be censured in the court of public opinion anyway, and thus taken care of WITHOUT state intervention. State control (dictatorship) and its curtailment of freedoms (including the freedom to do stupid things) is the thing they fought against.

If I go and spray paint "Iran will burn" on the outside of a monument celebrating Iranians, it would be a hate crime. If I spray painted the same on a Mosque, it would also be a hate crime. If an Iranian writes "Canada Will Burn" on a Canadian monument, or on a United Church, it's just vandalism.

Did an Iranian do so? Got a link or something?
Did anybody spray paint "Iran will burn" on anything and get charged with a hate crime, or are you just making stuff up? Specifics would help here.
Actually, AFAIK, hateful messages against nations are not classified as hate crimes. Writing Iranians or Canadians will burn might be deemed a threat or incitement to violence, don't think it would be deemed a hate crime.

I guess cause nothing of the sort happens in your neck of the woods, it wouldn't happen and it would be stupid for anyone to suggest that. Just a few samples of the double standard: Church = "Vandalized" http://www.citytv.com/toronto/citynews/ ... cle/217035Mosque = "Hate Crime" http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/st ... crime.html

Tony Vella said. Do you only read the headlines?

The pastor in the first example could have asked for the same but apparently did not.

So you've got your knickers in a knot because two different editors used different headlines? That's what all your fussing is about. Or as you said, is that all you have to offer?
