Brazil is the regional power in S. America so it makes sense in that regard. And who knows, maybe one dya Chavez will do more than just run his mouth for once.

I can see the need for a better navy, but Brazil seems to making the mistake that many nations do - developing the military before the economy is solid. Otherwise they risk having a shiny navy that can never leave port.

Is this the 21s century version of the Spanish Armada?

Brazil's economic growth is based on commodities boom. That is unsustainable. Until Brazil has solid economic footing that isn't driven primarily by Chinese and Indian demand for its commodities, there's no point in wasting billions on heavy steel.

They're making the same mistake the Spanish crown did over 300 years ago.

It's like human history just goes in circles, but our sticks get bigger.

And of those, who has a navy that requires the current size of the US navy?

Having navy is not the victory yet, few nuclear missles in Cyberia can choose everything. China will cause a lot of problem in future. So they needd :D

With the multitude of bellegerent idiots around the world, the US navy ensures none of them will mess with the Yanks as they can be easily destroyed by US naval nukes, air-power, the US Marines, hunter killer subs etc. I think that about sums up US naval strategy.

I have nothing against US, but... Why all of you over the ocean believe in "invincible USA"? That's the bullshit, nukes, marines......blah blah blah. They need to stop their fast food fatness, or that'll be difficult to get to the nuclear missle button. They can't stop mexicans. After 2000 years most of people will be black colored or chinese, or even mixture of that. Everything doesn't have any sence. Nowadays it's better to sestroy country from inside then from the outeside.
