Fans and Canadians keep saying "that's not what we're about", yet, the beer tipping on spectators and other cowardly acts has been going on for quite some time. Yes, isolated fans, but it seems to be happening far too often.
You moron, it happens pretty at much every stadium, ball park and arena in the world.
Try going to Madison Square Gardens cheap seats wearing anything other than a Rangers jersey. You'll be lucky if all they do is harass and pour beer on you.
I did. I wore a Leafs jersey at MSG a few years ago, I was bought two beers throughout the night, though dealt with some heckling which I can deal with. It made it easier that the Leafs lost, but I didn't experience beer thrown at me, as happened to a 9 year old at a CFL game in Saskatechewan for instance.
Meanwhile at a Habs game, cowards threw a beer bottle at myself and some co-workers in the parking lot after the game, and Montreal won!
Maybe Americans should just avoid coming to Canada for such events. We don't seem to respect our guests very well. Meanwhile Americans love the added benefit to the economy that Canadian fans bring. Priorities, priorities...
