They spent years trying to tell people that Dieppe was a prep for D-day,
and "lessons needed to be learned".
Everything the Allies needed to learn about how not to do seaborne landings
they should have learned at Gallipoli.
So, years later, the myth of the secret Enigma machine came out,
in another effort to mask the fact that:
a parachute drop to take out guns was scrubbed.
the RN cried a bloody river about sending anything bigger than
a destroyer across the Channel.
Air cover was 'meh' throughout the day.
the beach was 100% crap for tanks.. it's rocks, not sand.
I could go on, enough to say the whole operation should never have been approved
from the beginning.
Herbie's family is right from the point of view that,
our boys were hung out to dry that day... Today, 75 years later.
