Seems like a smart move. But it would be silly to put all the construction in the east.

Very silly. Washington Group already has the sub-contract, which may go against them, but they also do good work, pumping out the ORCA class on time, and frankly, BC needs a boost to its shipbuilding industry, which has lost its way and can't even compete to build ferries for BC Ferries.

Doesn't matter, they are in the west, Quebec and Halifax will get it so the cons can keep their seats, standard practice for Canadian governments.

Doesn't matter to what province it goes, you all know the other 9 will bitch about it, even those that have no ship-building capabilities.

The Conservatives have shown over and over that they think votes can be bought (just like the Liberals believed when they were in office). The more things change, the more they stay the same...

BartSimpson BartSimpson: Yep. As soon as the Saskatoon-Churchill Canal is finished. That could be accomplished by a thorough dredging of the Saskatchewan River, which runs from Saskatoon all the way to Hudson's Bay - although of course that would cost billions of dollars. Frankly, given the multitude of wacky/hare-brained mega-projects that have been proposed in the past 50 years (nuking the tar sands, the GRAND canal, damming all of James Bay, etc) I'm surprised someone hasn't proposed it already.

Remember, it was the Rhino party that first proposed a bridge to PEI!

It's possible the gov't will try to buy of Quebec city with a new arena and then give the shipbuilding contracts to the other two bids. It would be the end of any pretense that they're actually a conservative party, but it might work politically.
