Of course not. But like he said:

$1:
"Seriously, what I've done is expose all my assets to the ethics commissioner. The process we have in our country isn't that I report to journalists on my personal situation. It's that I report to the ethics commissioner, and I make sure she fully understands my situation so we can get to the recommendations."

I'm not seeing that this guy has done anything wrong. And he's right that the fucking media doesn't get a vote in how he legally handles his finances.

To be fair, disclosure requirements are not always clear.

If you're supposed to report "liquid assets" then a house is not a liquid asset...but someone who in unclear on the requirements might think it is.

I've had to do disclosures in the past and I only disclose what's required. I do not offer more information than that. Nor should anyone else.

IMO complete public disclosure of health and financial records should be the standard for Cabinet Ministers, but that isn't the standard and it's easy to slip up on these things if you're mega-wealthy like Morneau and the missus. He seems to have tried to comply. All the same, probably not a good idea to say you don't report to journalists when you are caught out.

It should be but it isn't. So I agree with Bart. The guy used existing loopholes like any sane person.
Only in this case, he gets shit for trying to close some of the loopholes and shit again for using other ones....

Yeah but what the ethics commissioner told Morneau is that the law does not REQUIRE a blind trust, but IIRC this very same ethics commissioner in the past has called for that law to be changed and make blind trusts mandatory. I can only assume therefore that when the ethics commissioner met with Morneau she probably recommended it but told him it wasn’t mandatory and advised how to best get comply without it.

Blind Trusts should be mandatory for senior cabinet members and any over-entitled shits who want to complain about how tough life is for those unfortunate enough to be multimillionaires AND among the most senior federal government officials at the same time ought to be thrown out on their ass and pelted with eggs.

I get to watch you have a meltdown when law does not REQUIRE makes
you shriek like a girl with a Trump, but law does not REQUIRE
are your own 'cold, logical' words with Morneau.

Really? Blind Trusts? Do you think because a person puts billions in assets in a blind trust that they will suddenly forget about that asset?

He did what the ethics commissioner recommended, he got a someone who would remove the conflict by not giving him details about a bill that might put him in a conflict to interest. Not knowing about the possible effects on his interests means he can't be in a conflict of interest.

Morneau's problem was complying with the rues and underestimating the pettiness of the opposition. It's laughable that a person making 7 figures would come to the public service to enrich himself!

I'm not certain the opposition and media are being petty when they note that his plan to target tax 'cheats' and those using loopholes come while he himself is using those same rules to avoid taxation.
