I though Brian Jean showing just how two faced a politician could be definitely counts as that. Agreeing to talk to Kenny about merging the parties, after the names he called Danielle Smith for crossing the floor?

Oh stfu, he said he'd quit if that is what's best to get this province on the move again. Daniel Smith did it for power and is one of the reasons were fucked now.

merging parties and crossing the floor are two completely different scenarios. One, was debated, and a platform was conducted on the premise of uniting the right. The other, is an elected member of a party, who when push comes to shove, decided to flee in an attempt to gain a position of power. There was no hinting at floor crossing, she didn't campaign on well, I 'may' cross the floor if the going gets tough..

These are two completely different situations.

My personal opinion is to make it illegal. If that is too onerous, then they should either sit as an independent and then there should be a by election and if the member looses, they pay ALL the costs associated with the by election.

Seems fair to me. Our system isn't really about the 'individual' it's about the party, people usually don't just vote for the person sitting in the seat, but the platform that is represented by that individual. We may not like it, but that's the way our system works. So suddenly electing member x of party x to have them walk and be now party y is complete horse shit.

I don't disagree with you, but isn't that exactly what Jean and Kenny are doing now? They were elected as leaders of their parties, but now they are negotiating at dismantling their parties. Same shit as Smith crossing the floor.

Some of us who despise Kenny but still consider ourselves Conservative are screwed.

Apples and oranges. Little shocked this one came from you, too be honest.

There is no comparability between parties merging PREVOTE, and a person crossing the floor POST VOTE.

One maintains the voters choice, one disregards it.

Plenty of older dipper voters that are socially and or conservative folk.
Fiscal conservative and socially liberal is where the majority of Canadians stand.

Nope. They are different because ever body they have pissed on/off over this gets to voice their opinion at the next election.

When Smith crossed, it happened to occur at a very convenient time. Too close to the next election to bother with a by. There was no choice to voters. There was just more bend over and take.

I do, however, appreciate the irony that this current move is really just a completion of what Smith and Prentice were trying to do.

I don't see where in Canadian law where it says that a MP has to be of a certain party. In your country, like mine, we elect the person. If they do something we don't like (like crossing the floor) then we vote them out.

Not seeing the problem here aside from butthurt feelings.
