MacDougall took a great deal of care with the birds
That's why you are not wearing any kind of protection

If the bird wants help, you may not need it.
A few years back while camping, I was walking along a beach and noticed some splashing. I walked over, and it was a very big mature bald eagle that had ended up in the water. I stood on the edge while it flopped over, then it walked to me and sat on my foot. I was damned leery to pick it up, that beak and those talons are pretty scary, but I did, and it was quite happy to be carried back to my campsite, wrapped in a towel and dried off until a conservation officer picked him up an hour later.
