Um, no. The idea of prison is that criminals lose their rights for a period of time in order to get into their heads not to commit crimes when they go free.

Um, no. The idea of prison is that criminals lose their rights for a period of time in order to get into their heads not to commit crimes when they go free.

You're wrong. They don't lose their rights. They lose the right to be home. They are imprisoned. But they still have rights.

I don't mind inmates having privileges that they can earn with good behavior and I'm actually okay with them earning credit towards early release or parole with good behavior. But attributing full civil rights to people some of whom who would rape you or kill you if they had the chance?

I have the same rights as Paul Bernardo even thought the worst thing I've ever done was to collect a couple of speeding tickets? Gee, I feel so fucking privileged with that.

Maybe if the others didn't like being locked down for ten days they should have done something about their buddy who smuggled the gun in to begin with. But most of them are low-grade sociopaths and psychopaths in the first place so the likelihood of any of them even conceiving doing the right thing, much less ever acting on it, are so infinitesimally tiny that it's not really even worth discussing. We'd have better luck teaching proper table etiquette to hyenas than we ever would with getting through to most of the occupants of Con College.

Sorry Brenda but given our current feked up touchy feely criminal justice system some people would say that for all intents and purposes criminals have more rights than the rest of us, especially their victims.

Somewhere along the line our governments started letting the inmates run the asylum and things like this abomination are a direct result.

It's unfortunate that in Canada our criminal justice system has become a growth industry for everyone involved with crime and punishment which makes a person wonder if it isn't time we started treating our precious inmates like what they really are................. Criminals and not productive members of society who should be affored all the rights and priviledges that come with that.

Here's what they endured:

"Inmates at a federal prison in B.C. are suing the government over claims they were held in their cells for 10 days and denied fresh clothes, eating utensils, soap and even toilet paper during a lockdown two years ago."

Where I'm from that's a long canoe camping trip in Algonquin Park, except they don't get the view I do.

In prison a lock down is typically the result of the prison system trying to regain control over chaos. I have a feeling there might be more to this story, however under no circumstance should we be giving these inmates any where between 10K to 35K.
