That's it then. I'm off the bandwagon. To be honest it always felt like there was something wrong with gifting all our natural gas to China as the price goes up on gas here at home anyway. Also, ever have the feeling that you just didn't like or trust a guy just from the look of him? I've had that feeling big time since the first time I saw Rich Coleman.

$1: None of the multinational corporations considering LNG plants in B.C. has yet made final investment decisions. This just means that these corporations are putting the squeeze on BC, saying, "you want our investments, then you have to let us hire foreign workers". So this... $1: “Some jobs will not be filled by British Columbians, either because they require highly specialized experience in the LNG industry or because we do not have enough workers in the province to meet the level of demand,” he said. ...is probably a lie. And this... $1: “Our priority in filling those jobs includes making sure British Columbians are first in line for job opportunities, then Canadian workers followed by U.S. and international workers. ...most definitely is.

Probably not, because we don't train enough people in Canada and don't help them with mobility. We have enough workers, but not enough that we've invested in. Plus of course the foreign ones are semi-slaves, so companies can exploit them to a much greater degree raydan raydan: And this... $1: “Our priority in filling those jobs includes making sure British Columbians are first in line for job opportunities, then Canadian workers followed by U.S. and international workers. ...most definitely is. Yep.

No, they're no different than the rest of Canada. Keep importing workers, whether immigrants or TFW's while we neglect to train our own. As long as you're doing OK, why worry about anybody else. Besides it would be racist.
We already have the same thing going on for a mill that's being refurbished in McKenzie. The contractor is from the states and insists that only US people have the requisite skills. The US workers kept getting turned back at the border becuase they had criminal records and couldn't demonstrate any special skills, until somebody started coaching them on what to say to the border guards, and now they're getting in. The union is fighting this, but fucking unions, eh, who needs em.

N_Fiddledog N_Fiddledog: To be honest it always felt like there was something wrong with gifting ... Gifting?? LOL It is more like payback. Your debt was never free:$1: Premier Christy Clark and Natural Gas Development Minister Rich Coleman told North American political and business leaders that British Columbia’s liquefied natural gas industry will not only fight air pollution it will clean up the province’s debt. ----- LNG experts told the summit that the dozen or more projects currently on the drawing board in B.C. won’t all become reality, but Coleman says just three major plants are enough to clear away the debt.

Yes, and when the natural gas is all gone and we're still $60 billion dollars in debt you'll slap yourself on the forehead, and say "Oh, now I get it...gifting," We'll shake your hand and say, "Welcome to BC. Get used to it."

Same as the coal mine. The union lost that one. Who do they think they are their grandfathers? White men don;t mine coal. They greet at WalMart

N_Fiddledog N_Fiddledog: Yes, and when the natural gas is all gone and we're still $60 billion dollars in debt ... .... and you assume the Chinese will lend you MORE money??? in exchange for what?? You should be slapping yourself because you, your neighbors and your B.C.-land are all you have left to serve as collateral to gain new loans. Good luck begging foreigners for more gifts.

Xort Xort: So are the people of BC going to raise up and protest this? Of course not. In general the majority of Canadians will submit to the whims, vagueries, and caprices of their government because the fashionable people have convinced them all that it's only rude Americans who stand up to their government.

Hopefully BC will be smart enough to stash some of that away and save it for the future - you know like Alberta tried to do with the Heritage Trust Fund until King Ralph got into power and treated it like a piggybank.
