why does it's hull make it look like it is made out of paper?
It's a stressed steel monocoque hull stretched over a frame and welded. The days of armour plating, riveted sheets is long gone.
Do remember that Fraser and all of her sister DDEs and DDH (except St. Laurent) were at sea for a good quarter century passed their designed lives and they all looked like waffles well before the end. These classes of ships were designed right after WWII as relatively cheap escorts that were capable of being made very quickly in time of impending war. They were state-of-the art an the 1950s.
