It's just another example of the Conservatives ignoring science in favour of ideology. Researchers doubt any link exists, but it polls well, so go and do it anyhow.

Well, it seems to work politically, and that's all they care about.

andyt andyt: Well, it seems to work politically, and that's all they care about. And that's my point. It's not from the perspective of making Canadians healthier, pretty much the job of Health Canada. It's about falling in line with a political ideology, something that offends me that a party is trying to dictate it's ideology to Canadians.

the thing is, this sort of ad just backfires. Gets the ignorant parents all hyped up, but what are they going to do about it? The kids know this is bullshit, the parents preaching to them will just make them more distrustful of the parents.
When I was 12 or 13, had a friend's mother lecture us about not smoking that evil marijuana. I didn't even know what marijuana was, so I didn't pay much attention. When I was 14 I read a LIfe magazine article where the reporter said smoking pot made him see an orange like he was holding the sun in his hands. Right there I knew it was for me, and my friend's mother's warning had no relevance.

I used to get the 'Hazardous Chemical' information booklet, that told industry which easily available chemicals reacted with others the most violently, so they could plan their storage so as to not store the most hazardous ones together. I considered it a 'how to' book, and tried them all! People warning me about stuff just seemed to make me want to find out what the fuss was about. It's amazing that I didn't die.

Only STUPID parents. Thirty years down the road and they waste tax dollars on crap ads that are basically 'this is you brain on drugs (frying pan) shit. After all these years I've revised my opinion of Harper to decent/not bad but the Conservative policy on marijuana is so fucking far out of touch they deserve to lose the next election on that issue alone.

Public_Domain Public_Domain: These ads always made me want to try new things when I was a kid. Explains a fair bit.

Yet if you find anyone that's been smoking dope since they were a teenager, the affects are almost immediately obvious....but it's all scare tactics about this harmless drug.
