every single time the US has 'secretly' armed the rebels they have turned against them..maybe they should just leave well enough alone.

Or a least brand those arms the way they do with their relief shipments.

I'm calling BS.
Because all we need to do to arm the rebels is to do nothing as they continue to plunder Libyan armouries. Oh, and we're also letting them keep the guns the Brits are inadvertantly importing into Libya.

It quite the quagmire. On one hand you have the benefit that Old Mo will be dead and gone if the rebels succeed and Libya could be free. On the other hand you have the danger of arming a group which could be even worse than Old Mo. I say roll the dice and hope someone in Libya actually has the capacity to put the well-being of their fellow Libyan ahead of their own.

No no no, the US is just selling them guns so they can trace their use.

I think we should stay out of it. I'm not a fan of the Colonel and would like to see him impaled out side of his palace and his people install a real democracy.
Every time however when we get involved in something like we end up with something worse.
The Colonel is on his way out. The rebels can arm themselves from what they can take from is armories. Once he is gone and if they want some assistance from us is one thing, but lets not repeat the same mistakes we have made in Iraq and Afghanistan.
At most we might to something to destroy his air power. The rebels are under the treat of his air force and have no way to counter it.

A simple no-fly zone would help the Libyan people greatly and give NATO pilots much needed dogfighting training.

Not our business, not our war.
If the Americans want to get stung (again), good luck to them. But another backdoor CIA Al Queda esque operation is the last thing they need.

I completely agree, if nations in North Africa, Middle East and Southern Europe want a no fly zone they should impose it.
