If the woman was a member of the CF, then the troops should give a flying fuck. Spouses of CF members, which I was (a member of the CF, not the spouse of one), have a hard enough time while their significant other is away. While it's impossible to regulate human relationships, at the very least the CF has to try and make it look they take a stance on relationships amongst personnel and enforce it. If they don't then familial relationships in the Forces will be on even rockier ground. However even if the woman he had a relationship with wasn't a subordinate then, as a CO, he still has a greater duty to uphold the regs that state no personal relationships while in theatre. If he can't follow that simple rule, plus the unsafe weapon handling charge doesn't help, then he deserves to lose his command.

Doesn't need to be splattered all over the news. My and my buddies knee jerk reactions were all so what. Cheating spouses is part of married life and part of life in the CF. This has been reported for 3-4 days now. Big news worthy? Hardly!

Just becuase of his rank and the fact he was just charged with another offense. The media sharks are circling due to the hig ranking CF members stuff recently and any bet if one more thing comes out there will be stories about dysfunctional and muddied executive ranks in the CF and calls for changes and inquieries into the promotional system etc.

It would keep the sharks fed for another few months to fill pages. If the CF is lucky that won't happen, and if it does that there will be another overblown pandemic panic that will pop up.

I didn't realise he had the ND as he was getting on a chopper with his boss, the Lt-Gen and head of the Army.

I'd say there's a lot more to this story than an ND and a shag on the side. But I'm a suspicious git.

Really, I didn't realize that was part of the recruiting pitch..."Join the CF and your spouse can cheat on you while your away!"

I don't care that some people cheat, but when you've got high ranking officers doing it with their subordinates, it raises all sorts of ethical questions. It's exactly the same as a CEO banging one of his mid-level managers or a principal banging one of the teachers.

Leaders shouldn't be doing stuff like that with their subordinates - it looks bad, it's bad for morale, and it starts all sorts of hearsay that can affect both party's careers down the road.

Frankly, given his inability to load a C-8 and his sketchy grasp of ethics, he deserves to be booted. All he does is give the CF a bad image.

Way to spin the point I was trying to get across..... Not all spouses will cheat, however, it is a risk that will happen when your gone as much as we are. All I'm trying to say is that this is being blown way out of proportion in the news. I'm not defending the guy!

It's not like cheating is the only issue with this guy. He sounds like a problem that's best nipped in the bud right quick.

I think making an example of a General will have more impact on the rank and file than just the 'threat of punishment' should they be caught behaving in a similar manner. ie; " Jesus! 'They' shit-canned a General, I'd be crucified"!

Hes a General...he knows the rules and the risks and probably enforces it on his subordinates. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander. Only newsworthy because of his rank and position.

I know there are always pros and cons to these fraternization rules, I'm not here to comment on them, but good on the CF for not having a double standard for the brass at the top.
