Not just NBA but also games in MLB, MLS and WNBA.

No response from the NHL though...

They did so some pro BLM statements before the games last night but they really missed the mark there.

Also I’m hearing that both the LA Lakers and Clippers are going to sit out the rest of the playoffs in protests. But so far they’re the only two teams doing so. Still, the two biggest west coasts teams is a big deal.

$1:
The NHL has postponed all four of its playoff games scheduled for Thursday and Friday in the aftermath of the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man, in Wisconsin last weekend.

The players requested the postponements and the league supported the decision, the NHL and NHL Players' Association said in a joint statement released at 6 p.m. ET.

Does anyone remember when sports used to be about athletic skill, and watching your favourite teams/players to get AWAY from the rest of the world and all the political nonsense?

Wasn't that back when athletes weren't role models for kids and expected to be a supporting example for them?

As soon as parents gave up a bit of role modelling to the athletes, then sports got political.

Nothing political with the negro leagues either... maybe we should bring those back.

Perhaps, but the real start was when athletes started being paid ridiculous amounts of money for playing a game, and started to use that as an excuse to boss everyone else around to meet their demands.

Most athletes (not all) have taken it upon themselves to use their money, influence, and clout in sports to bitch and moan and tell all of us peasants what to do and how to think. Professional sports has become a business and religion all it's own, and is less about athletics and talent. These athletes are on a pedestal so high that we have become afraid and unwilling to climb up there and bring them back down to reality.

Hell, even the Olympics aren't what they used to be. Society just keeps continuing on it's eternal nose dive, and no one seems to care.

Athletes have used their positioning in the public eye since at least the 50s or 60s. It's definitely become more prevalent now, but it's not like it's a new thing. The Olympics has had political shit in it for almost 100 years likely starting with the Olympics in 1936.
