This sounds almost criminal. A school board policy disallowing doctor prescribed medication for a severe disease which can clearly prove fatal? WTF is wrong with schools?

$1:
Gibbons also expressed frustration that the school Ryan attended his entire life, and was well aware of his condition, assigned him the trombone in music class, which she felt made him more vulnerable to the fatal asthma attack.

W T F?

Seriously, who the hell is making decisions nowadays? If I had kids, I'd be the school boards worst nightmare.

Do you know what the worst part of this is for me? That these sorts of things don't even surprise me anymore. I almost expect stupid crap like this to happen. :?

If my kid died from asthma due to an idiotic school board policy then the members of the school board would coincidentally perish in a series of tragic accidents.

Not a threat, mind you, just a premonition.

It is criminal - criminally stupid. If my daughter had asthma and the school tried that BS with me, I'd want to burn the damned place to the ground!

What other medication are kids not allowed to carry? Do they have to surrender their Epipens at the door, too? I can understand why you don't send them to school with bags of Ritalin but puffers? What possible harm could a puffer do to anyone else?

We pay a shitload for our education system. Why can't we find intelligent people to run it?

If the school was seizing inhalers I'm sure they'd be taking epipens. Unlike an inhaler (from what I know of them), an epipen could be lethal if used improperly.

Depends if the Inhaler is a steroid type ingredient. I have seen them abused like Ritalin in Schools. Most Schools in the US keep those meds with labels locked up in the school nurse's office. The Nurse takes care of the Med and treatment of the child if needed in the US. Although I am certain we have some schools who are way more stupid and careless then this. None the less very tragic all around and yes the School needs to be held accountable to and above the max.

This is fucking stupid! I had a puffer throughout a good period of my school years and no one at the school or school board had a shit hemorrhage over it. And I'm sure I was far from the only one to carry one at school.

Much has changed since the old days eh? When I take my kid to school some of it is pretty obvious, like the locked doors, fences, surveillance cameras, etc. Others things (like this poor kid and his medication) are more subtle.

It's like the inmates have taken over the asylum. The nanny state has taken firm control. No child will ever have a "normal" childhood if they can help it.
Parent's complain that their kids spend too much time playing video games, but the moment little Johnny gets the slightest bit hurt playing outside, those petty minded leeches start looking for someone to sue.

I mean hell man, back in grade school gym class I had a tooth broken when I got an accidental whack in the mouth with a floor hockey stick. My parents didn't get all litigious and demand changes be made. It's not that they didn't care, they just weren't brain dead morons.
