Maximum punishments for anyone convicted of sexual assault, harassment or conduct. No if's and or butts. Discipline and respect for your fellow sailor/solider/airman is paramount to a responsible and effective military.

But, to be fair it'd be nice to see what they're considering sexual misconduct? Because if they're using today's civilian standard then, some of these cases may be more a result of someones hurt feelings rather than an actual act of physical or mental assault.

What's scary is having 106 criminal cases besides the 148 military discipline cases a number that doesn't bode well for the standard of discipline that's been instituted in the last 20 years.

Bring back a proper basic training where they beat the stupid out of you and the old Code of Military Discipline instead of Charter rights and you'd see a ton of these types of incidents disappear.

I assume the ones that only resulted in fines vs criminal prosecution or discharge were more minor in nature.

That or the old boy system at work. We all know "John" we served with him for years. He's a good guy that made a mistake. Yeah we need to punish him but lets be as respectful of him and give him as big of a chance in the civilian world.

Okay lets just fine him, reduce him in rank and discharge him. No JAIL time that would go on his permanent record.

The other aspect of sexual assault that's decidedly under-reported in the US military (and probably the CF as well) is homosexual rape.

The new chain-of-command that's come in over the past two decades would prefer that this kind of thing simply go away and when such crimes are reported the typical reaction is to immediately retaliate against the victim. Men who report these crimes can expect to receive a significantly negative fitrep that will effectively end their career, they can expect a negative psychological evealuation leading to a general discharge, they can even expect to be charged with significant crimes and then discharged with the charges dismissed provided they retract their crime report.

It's not the narrative that the government and the fuckers in the Pentagon want to see in public so the result is that most of the men who suffer this kind of thing either quit, shut up and bear it in silence, or they commit suicide.

In 1997 I had a senior officer who thought it was the funniest thing in the world to accuse a good Mormon kid of being a 'fag' when he was raped by two Navy pukes. In a total coincidence that same senior officer was off duty some time later and was beaten so severely that he lost an eye and had to take a medical discharge. Tragic.

The two Navy pukes were treated to blanket parties by their fellow crewmembers who then also treated them to a midnight swim. I've no idea who informed their crewmembers of the sealed report from the inquiry.
