It is always a good thing to see headlines like this. I know for every good-for-nothing criminal involved in the killing of people with this shit there is another but every effort to keep this crap off the streets should be applauded.

I'm not a big fan, but sometimes I think that it would be better to control production and sell hard drugs like we do with cannabis, along with education and social programs, of course. What we're doing now clearly isn't working.

I agree. The biggest part of the issue with OD's and the deaths that result from it is due to the shit like fentanyl being present in the drugs.

I have a friend who's son is in his 4th (I think) try at rehab to get clean. This time it's working much better as he's gone nearly 4 months without doing any drugs and is optimistic about getting his life back on track. Part of his program is helping others who have just entered with support.

I've lost many friends because of this, and have friends who have lost sons and daughters.. You know how we always say listen to the experts? yeah, well not with respect to this crisis. The experts have been horrible. Sitting around with their thumbs up their asses for years.

My conjecture is that they were sociologically conditioned to see addiction as a moral failing adn despite claiming some objective expertise, that a priori conditioning remains entrenched. Ditch the experts and start listening to the users.

An addict will always find his next dose, legal or illegal, safe or unsafe, and will do what he needs to do to get it. I'm not blaming the addict, it's the nature of addiction.

They need support and help, and like Zip said, the experts don't understand and aren't listening.

I've heard experts say exactly what you two are saying. Treat addiction like a health problem, not a crime.

It's the politicians closing safe injection sites and blocking people from getting treatment. In Alberta, at least.

Got to say though that I have very little experience with drug addiction. Alcohol and gambling I know (no, not personally).

Someone who worked pretty much next door to where I worked (Desjardins vs National Bank of Canada) defrauded the bank of $2 million to fuel his gambling addiction, this is many years ago. So when I wrote in my other post "An addict will always find his next dose", this is a good example.
