We have become a better world then we were 100 years ago. We still have a very long way to go but I think we have learned enough not to repeat the kind of mistakes the caused the "Great War" that cost 10 Million lives.

Read an interesting article in the Globe an Mail that we are in a similar situation as 1914, except with the US as the fading empire, the Chinese pushing to take over. The Archduke Ferdinand assassin was a jihadi, just a Christian one. Motivated by the same ideals as current jihadis, tried to commit suicide by his capsule failed, and he only got to shoot because the bombing that was planned didn't come off and the carriage took a wrong turn. The big powers got sucked into Serbian fucknuts dreaming of a greater Serbia. Blackhand = ISIS.

Just as last time, we're coming off a major recession that shook up the world powers, and just as last time, a lot of the warfare is economic, that then leads to actual war.

I looked those articles up andy.

Many commenters are asserting that it isn't USA vs China where it was Britain vs Germany, but rather humanity vs the environment.

You'd think so but I have grave doubts about that. Despite our incredible progress and the amount of knowledge the average person now has at their finger tips, considering how intelligent we are as a species, we are also still pretty stupid in some ways.
Either that or life truly is cyclical.

There was 2 articles and one debate piece. I found all of them interesting. I was just pointing out that there was some commenters who felt the articles were the appropriate medium for their environmental agenda.
