Thanos Thanos:
I'm guessing that as a warm-weather state the don't have it in their codes to install the same heavy-duty insulation requirements in their utility facilities that we do in Canada, or they do in other US states that experience a hard winter every year (i.e. Alaska, the Dakotas, etc). I'm not going to dump on them too hard because this is a very shitty thing for the average Texan to have to experience. Nothing could prevent the power lines from collapsing because as Canada knows with our own ice storms that it can happen anywhere - even the toughest lines & cables can't withstand it when literally thousands of pounds of ice suddenly get stuck to them.
Nope, you should be dumping on them. It's not the power lines that are the problem. The fucking plants froze. The natural gas flowing through the pipes can't maintain pressure. The nuclear cooling towers are freezing. Nothing is winterized properly. They voted consistently for "small government" retards who
A) Didn't allow for intersection with the rest of the U.S. power grid so that it didn't have to follow regulations (including winterization). Also means they can't get power as easiy from neighbouring states.
B) Completely ignored reports from 9 years ago saying they needed to winterize their power or this would happen again.
C) Privatized the entire energy sector within the state and made the primary motivation profit instead of making sure citizens have fucking power
We need to stop this nonsense where we don't hold citizens accountable for government they vote in. If you vote the same people in for 25 fucking years and they run your state infrastructure into the ground, you deserve the criticism.
