U.S. President Barack Obama is "recklessly" spreading rumours of a Pyongyang-orchestrated cyberattack of Sony Pictures, North Korea says, as it warns of strikes against the White House, Pentagon and "the whole U.S. mainland, that cesspool of terrorism."
"peck420" said So, the way to show the world you didn't hack Sony is to threaten to hack all sorts of other things? Makes perfect sense.
It's right up there with making highly publicized, unsubstantiated claims.
Or are we going to pretend that NK hasn't been under constant attack for the past week due to those claims?
I can tell you from experience, that there is a breadcrumb trail from a hacked server right back to the PC that the hack came from, if you know how to follow the trail. It's far from unsubstantiated. I'm sure that the reason the FBI took so long to call the Norks out was that they were making 100% sure that accusations were substantiated by evidence. And not just 1 line of evidence, but multiple examples.
And how many computers could NK power anyway? That can't afford streetlights as is. If both PCs are under constant attack, well, you reap what you sow. I say just cut off internet access entirely for them, but I know their access all routes through China, and China is far more complicit at worldwide hacking than Kim Jun Haircut and his band of merry geeks. China is probably enjoying this distraction!
Hacking doesn't just cause the loss of confidential data, it can cause serious damage and put lives at risk.
One of these days Midget Jong Un is going to threaten the wrong President and he'll get a Hellfire right up his tailpipe.
It's generally not advisable to threaten someone when you have zero ability to carry out the threat and the person you're threatening probably knows exactly where you are and what you had for breakfast.

North Korea's Internet Is Totally Screwed Right Now
Following several days of continuous connectivity problems, North Korea's internet has gone dark, according to one researcher. Whether it's a cyber attack or a routine outage remains unclear. However, it looks a lot like a DDoS attack.

As a researcher from CloudFlare told the Times: North Korea's network is "toast".

The Norks have a long list of people upset with them right now. Even the gomers over at 4Chan are going after them for daring to threaten Seth Rogen and James Franco.
Between the DoD and the fanboys the Norks are going to be screwed for the foreseeable future.

I'd like to have seen the evidence that this was perpetrated by North Korea myself. It certainly makes intuitive sense, but I don't like taking the government's word for it.
I don't really care if NK did or didn't hack Sony. They've caused a lot of shit, killed a lot of people. I don't really worry that the US might have wrongly shut down their internet for a bit.
