Worked himself to death for free. Should that count as a Darwin award contender?

Seriously, I put nothing past the vermin in the banking industry...especially BofA.

21 years old, wow. Sad.

But impressive. I've never made it longer than 48 hours without an hour or two shut eye. More than likely had to rely on a constant Red Bull intake, and that will kill you.

Might have been on some "performance enhancing drugs" too--go pills.

I know how this guy felt. Out of Univeristy, the first place I worked for, the guy wasn't very technical but was good at business. He'd get a request from a customer (big restaraunt chain) for some outlandish contraption. He'd come to me to design and build the thing.

He'd put incredible constraints on the design, like I get to use an MCU with 512 bytes ROM and 128 bytes RAM, and no external support electronics for the MCU beyond the basic needed. He'd spring the requirement on me on Monday, and want a working prototype on Wednesday, finished product on Friday. So a few nights without sleep were on the way. I hated that bastard.

I had two jobs for a while--a full-time and a part-time. But at least I got minimum wage. It resulted in a short incident of psychosis, actually. I was suffering from sucha long-term lack of sleep that I quit the part time job (over the phone, in no uncertain terms, apparently), then showed up the next night for work, with absolutely no memory of having quit.

You gotta get your sleep.

In University; I had a night job (23:00 - 07:00) cutting meat, and I was retaking one course at NAIT because I didn't get a passing mark over 90% (88%). If I was lucky, I got to sleep from 5pm to 9 pm.

I'm pretty sure I had a locker full of books somewhere at NAIT, and I can remember the combo to the lock, but damned if I can remember where the locker was or if I ever cleaned it out.

Concur. The Mrs. and I had a rough patch early on when I was working God-awful shifts in the restaurant business. I finally took a day off and slept 15 hours straight and then I felt better. Not long thereafter I quit the restaurant business.

I did a week once, when I was 15 or 16.

When done, I fell asleep Friday afternoon, woke up Sunday dinnertime.

This is where compulsive behaviour leads you.

I would agree that it may have been compulsive behaviour, but certainly not abnormal or pathological. The world is teeming with ambitious guys trying for their shot at the brass ring. It's quite normal actually--people will work harder for a chance at a big prize than they will for a guaranteed smaller reward. That's why people stand in front of slot machines for hours.

At 21 three all nighters for a fucking bank... would have shot myself first.
