A lot. One explanation I read for higher Canadian prices are trariffs we impose. So a Canadian retailer of Honduran T shirts has to pay a high tariff (vs the US) even tho often there's no Canadian industry left to protect with those tariffs. They do represent a good chunk of govt income tho. So then Canadians go across the border, where tariffs are lower, and import their own T shirts. Lose/lose.
I do wonder if we could use the tax system to encourage Canadian manufacucturing? Ie the more a product is actually produced in Canada, the less tax the company pays on profits from that product.
Gotta wonder how much is being spent during these trips, and how much it actually costs the Canadian economy.
