Evan Almighty Review

Steve Carell reprises his role of Evan Baxter (Bruce Almighty) in the new movie Evan Almighty. Much like Bruce Almighty, the movie is about an average man commanded by God to do something spectacular. The biggest difference is that while Bruce was given a blank check and omnipotence, Evan is commanded to build an Ark.

 

He resists God’s wishes and his aspiring career as a congressman quickly goes off the rails as a result. His family life begins to fall apart and soon the whole world is against him, from his skeptical neighbours to reporters and his colleagues in Congress.

 

Carell’s physical comedy prowess comes to the fore and there are plenty of chuckles in this movie, but it is not as funny as the original, nor as funny as other recent comedies, like Blades of Glory and Knocked Up.

 

While you might get a few laughs from this, your best bet is to rent it on DVD or see it in the cheap theatre in your area.
