Pursuit of Happyness Review

Based on a true story, Pursuit of Happyness is the story of an average man trying to struggle during the recession in 1980-81. I didn’t really care to see this, but was talked into it by my better half. I was lucky because I got to see a pretty good movie.

 

Chris Gardner (Will Smith) is an ambitious salesman hoping to make it big selling medical equipment. He struggles on, selling bone density scanners when one day he sees a stockbroker pull up in Ferrari and decides he wants to become a stockbroker, to better provide for his family. He learns of an internship program and does his level best to get in. During the course of this, his wife leaves him, someone steals some of his bone density scanners, he is arrested (for overdue parking tickets) and eventually evicted from his apartment. Through it all, he struggles on and tries to raise his son, trying to keep a positive view on life.

 

Personally, the movie reminded me of regular life. Every time Chris managed to pull himself up, life would pull the rug out from under him. Will Smith does an excellent job as the never say die, go-getter.
