Canada in Space - The Alouette
Canada's experience in space began in 1962 with the launching of the Alouette 1 research satellite. Canada was then the third country in the world, after Russia and the United States, to design and build its own satellite. Alouette, designed the study the ionosphere, was supposed to last only one year but continues to transmit data for a decade.
