Anik A1 Satellite

With the launching of ANIK A1 in 1972, Canada became the first country in the world to have a commercial geostationary communications satellite network.

The Anik satellites are geostationary communications satellites launched by Telesat Canada for television in Canada. In Inuit Anik means "little brother".
