Good for Macleans, it seems a lot of media folds to government or government officials. Good for them for standing behind their article and reporter.

Quebec bashing my ass, they clearly said it wasn't to be interpreted as a condemnation of the people. There is definitely more POLITICAL scandals coming out of Quebec and the Quebec govt. I look at it like this, if someone called me gay, it wouldn't real bother me, I would let it be known that it was untrue but I would leave it at that, secure in my own knowledge of my sexuality. But if I was trying to hide it I would make a big show and dance about it, maybe try and divert attention away from the subject, or go way overboard trying to deny it, just like the govt is doing right now.

*sigh* Why do so many Quebecers have to be so damn reactionary? The article and Maclean's aren't condemning Quebec or its people, but the political situation there. Let's face it, Maclean's pretty much nailed it with this one. Sure, there's corruption everywhere but it's so widespread and open in Quebec.

Another thing, Maclean's also indicated that they've run hard-hitting articles before that have been about the faults of a particular province, yet it's only in Quebec that people seem to get in such a state of mind as to suggest that by highlighting and pointing out a province's flaws, it's bashing the province.

That is because no matter how corrupt they are they are better than the rest of Canada and questioning them or their anti-English laws must be bashing them.

You sir have displayed so much ignorance in that post that I won't bother answer it properly. In anycase, maybe you should check news from Quebec to begin with.

And you just totally proved MY point.

How exactly is it bashing when it brings to light a troubling issue in the province? Instead of actually trying to address what the article mentions, you immediately descended into verbal accusations of ignorance and failing to provide any examples to the contrary.

P.S. I live in Ottawa, date a French chick from Aylmer, and my dad lives in Gatineau. I speak French and have read the news in Quebec.

This sort of reminds me of the time that Moody's expressed some concern over the Taiwanese government and economy. The Tawanese repsonse to Moody's was,'You don't understand Taiwanese economics.' yeah and we don't understand your idea of English either(they found CELTA, TOEFL standards too difficult to meet, so they created their own test, the GEPT...only recognized in Taiwan). I don't know maybe I'm the only one who sees the analogy.

Good for Maclean's. It's nice to see that even left-leaning media can resist a tidal wave of Quebec indignation.

Hopefully enough other media outlets and public figures will keep this kind of stuff up until more Quebecois can learn that it's ok to criticise, and that it's not always "bashing" every time someone dares to say Quebec isn't perfect.
