Because she's making a huge issue about something she has no business making an issue over. Put the freakin' sweat band over it like they're asked to and be done with it. Non-issue.

The kid was asked to take it off by THIS particular teacher and put a sweatband over it twice before by other teachers... A MedicAlert bracelet is just NOT the same as any other piece of jewelry. I don't see the point of putting a sweatband over it anyway, the bracelet is tight around the wrist.

It's for her safety and the safety of the kids around her (should she accidentally scratch a classmate in the face with it playing a sport). The sweatband would reduce that risk, while appeasing the mother by not having her daughter remove it. Rules are made for a reason. I've seen, firsthand, why this one was made. I don't see why there's such a fuss being made, except for a healthy dose of narcissism.

Ask the equally narcissistic, over reactive, borderline, freak parent of the child who receives the scratch. Trust me - it's f***ing ridiculous and happens daily.

If the teracher/supervisor is aware of the warning on the medic-alert bracelete, then why on earth should there be an issue to remove it? Really, the child is being supervised by an adult that knows the issue and is aware of how to deal with it.

always think about worst case scenario: teacher must leave class to be replaced by a teachers aid, a sub comes in on a last-minute call, etc.

And I think the rare bitching from a parent of a dead kid is far more relevant than the bitching of parents who need to grow a fucking backbone and learn that scrapes, bumps, and bruises are all a part of growing up. there is a reason why the human body is designed to heal itself.

Let's see, grade school gym class I had 2 teeth broken by a stick while playing floor hockey, got a concussion after a rather vicious soccer tackle, and had my nose broken playing baseball. Not to mention the standard bumps, bruises and scratches. No one had a shit hemorrhage over it. Getting a little scratch was the LEAST of my worries in gym class.

Hell, I'm sure we all remember dodge ball, aka murder ball.
