Well, some places are doing something about this issue;

$1:
EDMONTON - Strathcona County officials are warning drivers they will begin handing out tickets next week to people using hand-held cellphones while on the road.

The new county bylaw, the first of its kind in Alberta, comes into effect on Sept. 1. Anyone caught talking or text messaging on a cellphone while driving will be issued a $100 fine for the first offence, and $200 for each subsequent offence.

I'd love something like this for typing. I hate trying to write my novels and then get stuck trying to write something I'm imagining in my head.

Well, it's a start but I seriously think that reckless driving charges should also be laid. Especially against the texters.
