Now we understand what The Hill was reigning in.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Hill needed cheap muppets to spout out cheap talking points to prop up the corporate establishment. Once they went off script while upping the ratings they had a firestorm on their hands and ran for the fire extinguisher. While their initial act of defiance was refreshing it is sad to see where their act has lead them. They ended up trading one yoke for another so they can write their own scripts.

Wasn't attributing it to malice, or stupidity. I was attributing it to the algorithm. The more down the rabbit hole they went, the further they had to go to keep growing the eyeballs coming in. That is the way capitalism forces them to go. And it always ends up in one extreme or the other.

There is one video that YT keeps pushing on me that is one guy who 'almost' won a Nobel, who is pushing a Joe Rogan video that rags on a theoretical physicist known for String Theory. Like any of those smooth brains could comment on String Theory with any authority. If I told you the first guy's youtube channel, ir his videos on PragerU, the images on it would make you laugh. But that's what he has to do to get the viewers. Repost Joe fucking Rogan.

Having ethics before going on a crusade prevents snowballing over a cliff. They chose violence. All the algorithm is going to do is compound mistakes not direct their actions. They have agency and a responsibility to execute it within their mission statement not go off on some hairbrained conspiracy riddled rant. Seymour had the currency of credibility before he accused the US of blowing up a pipeline Sagger doesn't when he tows the line of Russian propaganda at the expense of his brand.

The only remedy I can see is a guild, union or an agreed upon code of conduct. Corporate control of the media has all but strangled ethics in journalism and have given rise to MSN becoming stenographers to power. Their resistance to that is what gained them a following. However, that can't keep them afloat forever and the more they keep flouting fascist talking points to keep up the faster they will sink into OAN levels of credibility.

A good idea, but would directly go against the constitutional right to a free press if there were a government adjacent department in charge of determining who is a journalist. As much as I hate things like OAN and the rebel, they do have the right to spew their hate. As consumers we need to become immune to it.

We are running into that issue with bill c-11. The government is the last body to determine what is or is not a profession. It should be peers that determine who is of the profession along with forging an accepted code of conduct or constitution. If comic books can do it why not journalists?
