Someone on Twitter saw an MP flying back to Edmonton wearing a pin with that message on it - it's highly ironic that a guy whose salary and airfare was paid for by taxes would wear something so ridiculous.

The power to tax is the power to destroy.

Well, the posted article is a dead link so I don't know how the polling question was asked but I find it worth remembering that Premiers of Ontario and Alberta won elections on campaigns opposing the Federal climate tax.

Carbon taxes might have been more palatable if all the other taxes hadn't also been raised so much over the last five years. Business taxes, property taxes, and too many others all went up in the same period the CT's were implemented. It was just too much, basically repeated hammer blows in a fragile economic period for average people.

Found it.

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/politic ... /#comments

I think there's a clue in the actual title as to what the question in the Nanos poll might be:

Canadians oppose provincial governments spending taxpayers’ dollars to battle federal carbon tax, poll

From another link I found where these provincial tax dollars are going that Nanos and the Globe and Mail are so upset about.

Better not poll me, Nanos for G n M. You won't like the answer.

No it’s not. You use the taxpayer-funded roads and sewers and water and schools and police and fire and air traffic controllers and etc and etc don’t you? Where do you think that comes from?

llama66 should have been more accurate and said "carbon taxation is theft". Although, taxation without accountability is some serious fucking bullshit too. And that's what we have with this. Of course you're going to argue that they're accountable but you'd be wrong, and here's why. Team Groper have yet to be honest about the whole thing. We're being told that the average Canadian will get back more in a rebate than they pay.
Sounds like leftist math to me; 2 - 1 = 2.5

Now, let's pretend for the minute that Team Groper isn't full of shit about that. How does giving me back MORE money than I paid out going to stop climate change? Especially when you multiply that by millions of taxpayers.
Meanwhile a multi-billion dollar company with multi-billion dollar profits gets $12 million from Groper to buy more efficient refrigerators. Did you get a nice cheque from Groper to buy a new, more efficient fridge? How about a more efficient washer and/or dryer? No? To anyone else reading this, did you get one? No? Either did I. How odd. So a super wealthy corporation gets a Groper hand-out while the rest of us are expected to cinch our belts a little tighter and cough up yet another tax because "we just gots to put an end to climate change."

Meanwhile the "experts" continue to argue that Groper's price on carbon won't even come close to reaching his announced goals.

I'll say this much. Groper must be hung like a horse because for 3 1/2 years he's been stepping all over his dick.

9/10 it is sarcasm, in this case it’s not. I can swallow income tax- barely. But paying a tax because I exist and presumably create carbon, it too much. Theft, which is what this is... is egregious. To answer Beves comment about roads and sewers, that municipal taxes. My tax tax dollars got to Quebec, terrorists, apologist propaganda and anything else that does not benefit Canadians with the current lot. Think, you pay excise tax, duty tax, provincial tax, federal tax, and a dizzying around of other taxes. The government slowly claws all the money YOU worked for to pay themselves and to not act in the best interest of Canadians. It’s literally legalized theft. Now they want me to pay for my carbon footprint? Fuck off. I don’t drive, what carbon do I generate? This is a fucking money grab in the worst sense. And the left embraced it— whole-fucking-heartedly. Fuck that. I see so little of my already paltry pay cheque, and the government wants more? Jesus. I barely get by, no, fuck this... enough is enough.

Municipalities collect only a portion of their funds they need through taxes they levy. They rely heavily on transfers from the provinces and feds. Besides not everything mentioned is municipal. Highways ard airports for example are provincial.

Without the essential services paid for by tax dollars you wouldn’t be able to flush your toilet or safely eat any food you didn’t grow yourself, or safely walk across a bridge You’d probably be dead within a week. Without tax there’d be no schools and therefore no jobs.

You want to know the difference between first world countries like ours and third world shitholes? People in the shithole countries pay no taxes and receive no services in return l. If someone sells you a shoddy bill of goods you’re on your own. If your employer decides not to pay you for the work you’ve done you’re on your own. If your house is poorly constructed and collapses on you, you’re on your own.

When it’s all said and done, Canadians pay 30% to 35% of their gross income in taxes. That’s not all that much to pay for the first world society you foolishly take for granted.

And if you don’t burn much carbon as you claim then you won’t pay as much carbon tax now will you?

If you don't drive, then you don't pay carbon tax on gasoline. Those that do pay it.

And in Alberta, the Carbon Tax pays for LRT construction that you do use. When Kenney eliminates the tax May 30, what is going to pay for the construction across the province? Where are those jobs going to go?

When the Feds impose a carbon tax, they will refund it directly to the people who paid it. What do the provinces get? Nothing! So Kenney is eliminating a revenue source that went to fund infrastructure improvements. To quote Homer Simpson; "Me so smrt!"
