Sorry women, but you should be staying at home looking after your kids. That's the way God made you and what you excel at. As to whether or not a female can command a ship under fire, that's anyones guess. Not very likely tho, women are not wired to think and make quick decisions, they are wired to multi task yes, but there's a whole world of difference between carrying a phone and doing 5 things and looking after a child's needs versus commanding a war ship. Women get extremely emotional and that clouds their decision making ability, especially when it's that time of the month. I particularly feel bad for female pilots on long hauls locked in a small cockpit with a very inadequate toilet facility, that must be especially trying when its that time of the month.

stokes stokes:
It is also excellent that a female made the rank of Commander,

Um, she's not the first woman to reach the rank of Commander. I knew a guy back when I was in the Navy who's mom was a Commander at reserve HQ in Quebec City and that was 4 years ago. Plus back in 1994 Wendy Clay became the first Canadian woman promoted to Major General, so quite a few women have achieved the rank of Commander (or it's army/air force equivalent rank of Major) before her.
You do realize there's a difference between rank and title (i.e. Captain is both a rank and a title, and one doesn't mean the other)?

I haven't kept in touch the last few years but I think I know her. If it's the same women, her husband was a Rear Admiral.

Wow, that is the funniest unintentional double entendre I've read in a long, long time.
BTW her name is Marta Mulkins (LCdr back then, don't know what she is now), and she was made CO of HMCS Kingston back in 2003.

She's pretty 'plain'. I'd like a really hot, cougar type chick to be my boss. Oh yea!

Like Jack Nicholson said in A Few Good Men;

$1:
You're the luckiest man in the world. There is, believe me gentlemen, nothing sexier on earth than a woman you have to salute in the morning. Promote 'em all I say.

He played such a good role in that. YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!
