BeaverFever BeaverFever:
Gunny: A few hundred Canadians also served in the Confederate Army, as the Confederates had closer ties with Britain. Should a distinction be made?

No, just threw that out there. Quebecers served with the Vatican and has been pointed out, Canadians served in Crimea, Sudan, and a host of other wars because of ties to the motherland or kin or religion.

Sometimes, like Canadians who joined the US army to fight in Iraq, they thought it was simply the right thing to do.

Except for this guy, somehow.

As I said - he's not exactly like the majority of Canadians.

There was alot of outrage when dual Lebanese-Candian citizins living in Lebanon needed evacuation a couple of years ago. In this regard, I'm wondering what should the obligations of the Canadian gov't be to recover his remains, etc.

Also, we had a lot of Candians who fought for the Serbian, Croatian, and Bosnian and Kosovar factions and then returned to Canada. All cool? What if we had some who fought for Saddam's forces in Iraq? Also cool? I haven't formed a hard opinion, so I'm just wondering what others feel the limits should be when Canada is officially "neutral".

Well, this thread is about buddy fighting Ghadafi - just like the RCAF and RCN are right now. He was killed but I don't think Canada is obligated to do anything for him. He made his choice but I praise him for it.

If Canada is neutral, as in Iraq, then I have no grief if they feel that's the right thing to do. If they opt to fight against Canada in say Afghanistan, then that's different.

Instant loss of citizenship or a charge of treason. Something along those lines.
