Beaver, I think you're a little out of touch with reality. Kids in my generation generally support the monarchy whereas our parent generation does not. Also, there is a big fucking difference between traditions that are really "In name only," and traditions that basically had us shackled to the British Empire. Like it or not, we are a constitutional monarchy, our military's Commander in Chief, as well as several Colonel of the Regiments, are all members of the monarchy, and the names should reflect that.
Also, what sounds more Canadian? Maratime Command or Royal Canadian Navy Air Command or Royal Canadian Airforce Land Forces Command or Canadian Army Just a thought

How about just "Canadian" without the Royal?
Also, I dispute that kids today give a rat's ass about the royalty. The royalty is currently enjoying a brief "Will and Kate" bump in popularity with the kiddies right now, but that will soon go back to the irrelevance it had before.
When the Queen visited last year, A Harris-Decima poll found that 45% of Canadians weren't even aware of the visit and that 48% of those polled aggreed with the statement that the Monarchy is "a relic of our colonial past that has no place in Canada today."

Gunnair Gunnair: RUEZ RUEZ: I wonder if they people that think the Royal Canadian Navy is divisive, understand what HMCS means? Glad to see ya back! How is PG these days? Cold and rainy. A very dismal summer.

Love it. Now all that's left is to bring back the ranks and insignia of the Army and RCAF as well as the Corps in the Army. RCCS sounds so much better then C & E Branch.

BeaverFever BeaverFever: Times change. And these times changed over 40 years ago. The Union Jack and all the nods to British royalty were a great hallmark of a past era when Canada had still not come of age. But that era is gone and little baby Canada is all grown up now. To me, this is like saying we should all go back to dressing in baby clothes and shitting in our diapers because that's what we did in the past when we learned to take our first steps and utter our first words. Just because we did things a certain way in the past due to the realities of that era, does this make it "tradition?" Even if the answer is yes, is "tradition" some sacred cow, and we have to keep doing that way indefinitely when those realities no longer exist?
We're not a British colony or satellite state anymore and haven't been for many decades. The Union Jack isn't our flag any more. The British Foreign Office doesn't dictate our foreign policy anymore. We don't require British Generals in order to field effective combat units anymore. We don't rely on British military kit anymore (infact, with the exception of the ageing Javelin SAMs, I don't beleive we have any British kit at all). And we don't require Parliamentary Approval from British Parliament to pass a law anymore. Do we have restore all of these just because some people have dubbed it "tradition" and therefore it must endure for all time?
This will probably be more harmful to recruitment than helpful because the youth of today and tomorrow don't see value in the Monarchy or possess any kind of "Mother Britain" mentality. t's time to stop living in the past. One of the reasons you can't find many reference to Canadian troops in history books written outside of Canada is because we're always just lumped in as "Brits" and rarely described seperately. We didn't require any of that in 1968 when the identity of the Army, Navy, and Airforce was ripped from the members at that time because of an ill thought out political decision. Once again you bluster yourself into irrelevence with your doltishness.
