Canada's first music downloading service debuts

Toronto-based Moontaxi Media Inc. launched its Puretracks online music service to a room full of cheering supporters at the Hard Rock Cafe.

More than 175,000 songs are available on its Web site, including music from independent labels as well as the five major labels: BMG Canada, EMI Music Canada, Sony Music Canada, Universal Music Canada and Warner Music Canada. Alistair Mitchell, one of Toronto-based Moontaxi's chief executives, called it a "watershed moment in Canadian music history.
