Charmaine Hooper scored off a header in the seventh minute as Canada upset China 1-0 on Thursday to advance to the semifinal of the FIFA women's World Cup.
A pro-Canada crowd of 20,021 roared its approval as the upstart Canadians dispatched China, which was the silver medallist at the '99 World Cup.
"What we have accomplished today is amazing," said Canadian coach Even Pellerud. "This is a historic day for soccer in Canada.
