The show, which is expected to draw almost half a million people out to Downsview Park, is scheduled to take place next Wednesday (July 30). Its the Stones way of saying "Sod off, SARS" and Torontos way of boosting the citys wounded economy.
Jim Belushi, Dan Aykroyd And Have Love Will Travel Revue will be kicking things off at 12:00 p.m., followed by Sam Roberts Canadas secret weapon to draw people into the concert early. Next up will be Kathleen Edwards, La Chicane, Tea #####, The Flaming Lips, Sass Jordan with Jeff Healey, The Isley Brothers and finally, Blue Rodeo. If youre wondering how all these artists will have time to perform, keep in mind that some will only hit the stage for a quick 15-minute set.
But thats just the practice round. The real show begins at 5:45 p.m. as Belushi-Akroyd and HLWTR warm up the stage for Justin Timberlake. Mr. Justified himself will be followed by The Guess Who, Rush, AC/DC and, you guessed it, The Rolling Stones, who are scheduled to play for over an hour. Thats five headlining bands on one stage, performing together on the same night. Apart from a full set from The Flaming Lips, what more could you ask for?
How about rumours that Christina Aguilera -- performing in Toronto the night before with Timberlake -- and Paul McCartney will make surprise appearances on stage.
