Pesky's team crash out
Date: Tuesday, May 27 2003 Topic: Sports
SHEFFIELD United are facing life in England's Division One football league after failing to clinch a coveted place in the Premiership despite the best efforts of Canadian striker Paul Peschisolido.
"Pesky" - 32 on play-off final day and capped 45 times for his country - found himself tightly marked by defenders from opponents Wolverhampton Wanderers every time he tried to break through towards goal.
The Scarborough, Ontario, born soccer player - who scored twice in a league match against Wolverhampton a month ago - was unable to find the back of the net as United crashed 3-0, thus failing to get promoted to the soccer Premiership.
Paul said after the televised play-off final: "We were very tightly marked - Wolverhampton had chances and took them."
